Health Status

The Brettles Herd is a member of Biobest Herdcare and has been given accredited status for IBR (Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis) and BVD (Bovine Virus Diarrhoea). We have also achieved Level 1 status for Johnes Disease as a result of 10 years of blood testing.

Because the cattle co-graze some of the year with sheep it is not worth trying to achieve accredited status for Leptospirosis but this disease has not been a problem.

The boundaries of the farm prevent contact with neighbouring livestock and only animals with an equivalent health status are introduced onto the farm.

The herd is currently on a one year TB testing programme.
